Italian leather makers combine their years of tradition with modern technologies to produce some of the highest quality leather in the world. Whereas other countries nowadays manufacture mass-produced leather using chemical tanning processes, Italian leather makers use natural tannins from plant and vegetable extracts to produce their leather.
Types of Leather Used To Make Fine Italian Leather Wallets
Generally, there are four types of leather. They include full grain, top grain, corrected grain and split. The highest quality leather is full grain and this leather is made from animal hide that is located just below the hair. It is the most durable and strongest type of leather, and it is also moisture resistant.
The next type of high quality leather is top grain. It is sourced from the same area as full grain leather, but it has been sanded and buffed to remove imperfections. This gives it a more uniform, smooth finish which is ideal for products such as wallets.
Sources of Italian Leather
There are many different sources of leather and they include cowhide, lambskin, faux and patch leather. When it comes to making fine Italian leather wallets, cowhide/calfskin would be the best, as they typically last longer, and have a unique texture that other types of leather cannot replicate.
For example, faux leather (which is an artificial source of leather) will not have any deformities or creases on it. As such, it will not have a unique texture. However, some people still choose this type of leather for personal reasons, such as disliking leather made from animal skin.
