How to keep real leather bags clean

Taking care of leather goods

You’ve probably invested a lot of money in a leather handbag. To make sure it stays a forever must-keep item, it’s important to take good care of it. Whether it’s an Italian handmade leather handbag, briefcase, travel bag, belt or wallet, the same care and attention applies. Always try to protect leather goods with a reputable leather cream or treatment. Try and do this from day one and apply at least every two or three months. Proper protection can stop stains, grease as well as damage that may be caused by inclement weather.

Give your leather bag a quick wipe-down

Giving your stylish and fashionable leather bag a quick wipe-down will help to keep it in tip top condition. A damp cloth is all you need. Just mix a small amount of leather-friendly soap and water using a damp cloth to wipe away any dirt from the outside and inside. To avoid ruining the leather, always wipe with the grain of the handbag. When cleaning real leather bags, don’t use baby wipes, an absolute no no for leather. Trying to remove stains using the wrong products causes damage to the colour, dries the leather out and creates a build-up of grease.

Eye-catching real leather bags

To keep your leather bag in good shape, stuff it with soft foam or paper when you’re not using it. Never leave a leather bag in direct sunlight, this may cause the colour to fade and even damage the leather. If you do get a nasty smell in your leather bag, odour removers can be used. Don’t use aerosols or solvent-based removers. So your leather bag stays eye-catching and in good condition, why not have it thoroughly cleaned by a professional every now and again?
